I was blessed to have Dirl Cunningham as my step-dad and my friend. He was the very best of my 4. He was the kindest, most accepting, non-judgmental, uplifting, and supportive of my 4. He was never afraid to express his love for me and his grandchildren. He loved us at our worst and at our best, and all the times in between. When I was in college, he would come over and sit with my girls for me during my evening classes and he was the only one of my 4 parents to attend my college graduation in 2003. He greeted me with the biggest hug while smiling with pride, joy and love after I walked across that stage....that in itself, spoke volumes to me.. He raved about the German Chocolate Cake I would make for him on his birthday...he understood me when it came to my relationship with my other parents...he never once judged me out loud. He was super awesome at pissing me off when it came to my love for ALL country music, but I could never stay mad at him because of the man he was. He was always smiling with me, always joking, always teasing me about my horrible driving skills...he was just tons of fun. He made my life better by being in it. Not everyone gets a cool step parent that will put aside almost everything to be there for you and your kids, one who takes you to cool concerts like Van Hagar, BTO, Guns n Roses, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Black Crows, and several more that escape my mind at the moment and one who is genuinely good. He really was cool beans. I'm thankful that he knew I loved him. I'm thankful that we were able to maintain a good relationship dispite the powers that be. I'm sad that his physical life has ended...but I find peace knowing that his beautiful love filled spirit will live on in my heart for I will continue to carry his love with me today, tomorrow and always. #BigPapaPump #MissHim #LoveHim
