Polly Ann (Alexander) Patterson, a cherished mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at her home in Skiatook, surrounded by her family.
Polly was born on February 19, 1939, to John and Kahheetah (Stiffness) Alexander in Evening Shade, Oklahoma, the youngest of ten children. Polly was raised in the small community of Evening Shade, OK, immersed in the Cherokee and Creek cultures and speaking only the Creek language until starting school.
Polly attended school in Vian, OK until 8th grade and later earned her GED. While raising four young boys, Polly earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK on July 31, 1970. After graduation, Polly and her four sons, Larry, Jimmy, Danny, and Kelly, settled in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, where Polly started her teaching career. Polly worked as a teacher in Pawhuska for 23 years, where she was known as Mrs. Patterson and Mrs. Kendrick, before relocating to Skiatook, Oklahoma. Polly continued her academic journey at Northeastern State University, where she earned a Master of Education degree in 1993. After moving to Skiatook, Polly continued working in the public school system as a school counselor for Skiatook Public School until her retirement in 2001.
Polly had a deep passion for serving the Lord, playing the piano during worship and being a faithful servant. Polly’s faith and love for our Lord and Savior led her to becoming a lay Methodist minister.
Polly enjoyed spending time and visiting with her family which included her many nieces and nephews whom she cherished and adored. She enjoyed holding family gatherings in her home. Polly enjoyed being outside working in her beautiful yard and watching the black birds. From an early age Polly loved animals, especially cats. In the late evenings Polly would watch her favorite shows which included Jeopardy and Bonanza.
Polly is survived by three sons: Larry Anthony Patterson, Jimmy Lynn Patterson, and Joseph Kelly Patterson, all residents of Skiatook, OK. Seven grandchildren: Quannah Boswell, Crystal Long, John Patterson, Sarah Patterson, Lindsey Hager, Daniel Patterson, Holly Patterson. Twelve great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, John and Kaheetah Alexander; her son, Danny Paul Patterson; six sisters, Katie Bowlegs, Ester Harjo, Nancy Barnoskie, Susannah Factor, Wynema Scott, and Sarah King; two brothers; Harley Barnoskie and Adam Barnoskie and other special family members.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home. The services will be conducted at Vian Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 12:00pm. The officiant for the service will be Earleen Brooks with music and hymns lead in Creek and English by Mvhayv Locust. Polly's interment will take place at the Barnoskie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Patterson, Daniel Patterson, Kameron Long, Adam Long, Scott Hager and Wade Boswell.
Polly will be missed by her family and friends.
