Evelyn Sue Dowell

Evelyn Sue Dowell, née Matlock, a cherished member of the Skiatook community and a devoted foster parent for 25 years with the Department of Human Services, passed away on May 17, 2026, in Skiatook, Oklahoma. Born on January 15, 1936, in Claremore, Oklahoma, Evelyn's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to others and her deep love for family.

Evelyn was raised by her beloved grandparents, Joe and Winnie Matlock, who played a pivotal role in her upbringing. She also cherished the memories of her parents, Jim Matlock and Galela (King) Matlock. Throughout her life, Evelyn maintained a strong connection to her roots, having grown up and received her education in Bunch, Oklahoma, attending Cave Springs Public Schools.

Her marriage to Loyd Jack Dowell was a cornerstone of her life; together, they shared 63 years of love and partnership. Evelyn's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her children Dennis Dowell and his wife Sharon, and Leah Williamson, along with ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and two best friends Deanna Powers and Polly Frazier. They, along with a host of other relatives and friends, remain a testament to the nurturing spirit Evelyn poured into those around her. She also mourned the loss of her children Eddie Jack, and Brenda, and two grandsons Brandon Williamson, and Joseph Williamson, who preceded her in death.

Evelyn's life was enriched by her passions. She found peace and pleasure in gardening, tending to her flowers with great care, and enjoyed painting, expressing her creativity through vibrant and thoughtful works. These hobbies reflected her gentle and loving nature, which touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Family, friends, and all who knew Evelyn are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Sien - Shelton Funeral Home in Skiatook, Oklahoma, on May 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on May 21, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, also at the funeral home, located at 1000 S Lombard Ln.

Evelyn Sue Dowell’s legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and warmth. Her contributions as a foster parent have left an indelible mark on the lives she touched, and her devotion to family will be remembered with enduring love and respect. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
