Isaiah 30:15 – In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.

This was Jackie’s favorite verse, it hung on the wall right beside her bed. Maintaining a quiet confidence rather than relying on her own strength was Jackie’s way. She was a constant in all of our lives and you could always count on her for a definite answer, it was never a “well maybe this or maybe that”. She would ask you a couple of questions and then give you a solid answer.

We can take joy in knowing there was an awesome celebration for her in heaven with Jesus and all of her family and friends waiting on her! And we all hope for Gene’s sake, he was waiting on her at the gate with a meal of surf and turf, a meat pie on the side, and a cold Dr. Pepper with a napkin wrapped around it.

Jacqueline Joyce LaZelle Moss was born on April 26, 1927 to Pete and Bertha (Webb) LaZelle in Hominy, Oklahoma. Jackie went on to heaven on April 6, 2026, exactly three years after her beloved Gene to the day.

She attended school in Hominy and graduated in 1945. In her early years at Hominy School, she was a member of the Methodist Children’s Choir and

took her Vows of Confirmation at the Methodist Church when she was 14 years old. She was part of the Campfire Girls and the Order of the Rainbow. In high school she was in the Drum and Bugle Corps, a member of the Pep Squad, and served as Majorette for two years.

After high school she went to college at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, then to Oklahoma A&M College (now known as Oklahoma State University, yes she is a Cowboys fan), and then was awarded a scholarship to Draughns Business School where she graduated in 1949. This is also where she and Moe asked to leave and come home every week, but their aunts said no, they had to stay.

She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Moss on June 6, 1949. They made their home in Tulsa right after they were married and were members of the Boston Avenue Methodist Church.

While living in Tulsa, Jackie worked for the Corps of Engineers as a Legal Secretary in the Real Estate Division and was a member of their Golf Club and their Bridge Club. She also belonged to the Mohawk Golf Course, the Tulsa Women’s District Golf Association, the Tulsa Business Women’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and loved to spend time swimming and bowling.

She and Gene moved from Tulsa to Skiatook in April 1954. They had their son Duane in 1953 and their son Damon in 1959. After moving to Skiatook, the Moss Family became members of the Skiatook First United Methodist Church. Jackie taught Sunday School to 5th graders and was a member of the Ladies Prayer Group, the Sunday School Couples Class, the Gourmet Club, and a CHUMS Charter Member. She joined the Skiatook Square Dancers, the Garden Club, OES (where she was a 50 year member), ESA Beta Chapter, the Skiatook Red Hatters, and the North Tulsa Bowling Club. She was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Mom, baseball scorekeeper, a homeroom mom, and a member of the PTA.

Jackie is survived by her son Damon of the home, her nieces Bonnie, Linda, Theresa, and Denise. Numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. As well as many, many loving friends and family members. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her son Duane, her parents Pete and Bertha, her Aunts Chris, Eboe, and Ocie, her bothers Pete Allen and Roger, her sister and best friend Moe, her niece Joyce, and her nephew Roger Allen.

We know Jackie was greatly loved and we know that she was very thankful for all of you.
