James Robert Berry Jr., born on December 1, 1959, in Peoria, Illinois to Mary Frances Burrell and James Robert Berry Sr, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, in Skiatook, Oklahoma. He was a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant who devoted over two decades of his life to caring for residents at a nursing home, retiring in 2010 after a commendable career marked by compassion and commitment.
James’s journey began in Perkin, Illinois, where he grew up and received his education, proudly graduating in the year 1978. His roots in this community shaped much of his character and work ethic, traits that he carried throughout his life.
Outside of his professional life, James enjoyed simple pleasures that brought him comfort and joy. He loved taking naps, spending time fishing, and watching crime shows. An aficionado of his chew, these hobbies reflected his laid-back and content nature.
James is survived by a loving family who will deeply miss his presence. His children, Andrew Bohnert, Tabatha Darling, Jessica Coons and husband Randy, stand as a testament to the strong family values he upheld. His mother, Mary Berry, remains a cherished survivor along with his brother George Berry, and sisters Donna Brantley and her husband Perry, and Diane Kolb and her husband Brian. James also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into his life, along with a host of other relatives and friends who valued him dearly.
