James “Jimmy” Wesley Reed Jr., born on March 24, 1949, in Matador, Texas to Evelyn Quontilla (Kimmel) and James Wesley Reed Sr., passed away on May 11, 2025, in Skiatook, Oklahoma, where he spent much of his life. While Jimmy was growing up he started his early education in West Texas and Missouri before making their home in Avant. Jimmy completed his education in Skiatook where he was a proud member of the Class of 1967.
After completing his education, Jimmy honorably served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, including a tour in Vietnam. His commitment to his country was emblematic of his character, reflecting the strong values instilled in him by his parents, James and Evelyn Reed, who preceded him in death along with his brother David Reed. Jimmy married Karen Marie Perigo on September 9, 1970, and to that union they had a son Wesley Jackson Reed.
Professionally, Jimmy was dedicated to his work, having been employed with John Zink and Koch Industries as a welder fitter for a large portion of his life. Jimmy was also employed as an oilfield pumper showcasing his versatility and strong work ethic.
One of Jimmy’s favorite pastimes was cheering on his grandkids in all their activities, especially sports, where he proudly considered himself their #1 fan. He was known for his passion for outdoors. He enjoyed wolf hunting, fishing, and camping, which provided him joy and fulfillment throughout his life. Additionally, farming was one of Jimmys true passions. Not only did he enjoy spending time working out in the field with his brother David, he also loved his collection of antique tractors and equipment. He was also a proud accumulator of “stuff”. Jimmy loved a good competition, especially dominoes and poker with his buddies. Jimmy was a dedicated member of Riveted Church where he took great pride in being the self-proclaimed groundskeeper, even bartering his mowing services with the neighboring fireworks stand in exchange for putting on an annual fireworks spectacular.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted son, Wes Reed, and daughter-in-law, Jamie; two sisters, Molly Davis and her husband Mike and Beke Reed; and two grandchildren, Hayden Reed and his wife Madi, and Josie Reed, and his bonus son, David Roach, and the highly anticipated arrival of his first great grandchild.
