Born on February 4, 1973, to Robert Saunders and Jean Jacobs, in Colby, Kansas, Michael led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
For 33 remarkable years he worked in the concrete industry from driving a truck to finishing concrete. Mike was the owner and operator of Sharp Concrete & Construction and had established a business plan to build houses in and around Skiatook area, a business that he nurtured with self-motivation and a steadfast work ethic. His substantial contributions to the construction industry were matched only by his desire to uplift others. Mike was known for his encouraging spirit, often serving as a mentor to many in his field.
Educated in Kansas, Mike attended school in both Colby and Hays, where he cultivated lifelong values that would shape his interactions and endeavors. His passion for education extended beyond his own journey; he initiated internships for high school students, reflecting his desire to support the younger generation and provide them with opportunities to learn and grow.
Mike commitment to the community was evident through his active participation in the 4-H club, the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and serving on the Board of Directors for the Skiatook Chamber of Commerce. He found great joy in bringing people together, embodying the essence of camaraderie and collective support. His love for hunting and fishing further enriched his life, allowing him to connect with nature and spend cherished moments with family and friends.
In a beautiful union, Mike married Michelle Rattana Rogers on January 9, 1999, in Hays, Kansas. Together, they created a home in Skiatook, where they have lived for the past 21 years. Michael cherished his wife and their family, including their children Alyssa Budig, Laurelle Augustine, and Jayden Sharp. He was adored by his grandchildren Quinn, Javier, and Jackson, who brought immense joy to his life.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his parents, Jean Jacobs, Norman Sharp, and Robert "Bob" and Helena Saunders. He was a devoted brother to Deirdra, Kellen, Sara, and Allison. He also leaves behind a host of cherished memories shared with family and friends.
Though Mike was predeceased by his sister Crystal Sharp; grandfather Vic Jacobs; grandmother Virginia Saunders; Uncle Mike Smith; and Aunt Lucy Bischoff, the impact of his life will forever resonate within those who had the privilege to know him.
