Richard Lee Ruhge, born on August 30, 1970, to Bill and Shirley Ruhge in Nebraska City, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a dedicated horse racing trainer and jockey, a profession through which he shared his passion for horses and sport with many throughout his life.

Richard’s journey began in his hometown of Dumas, where he grew up and received his education, culminating in his graduation from Dumas High School. His early years were marked by a strong love for the equestrian world, which would later become both a career and a lifelong passion.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard cherished his hobbies, particularly horse racing and fishing, which allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy time spent outdoors. His warm personality and love for the sport left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He also enjoyed doing stand-up comedy and was funny as hell.

He is survived by his children, Lacie Beats and Rachel Ruhge, who carry forward his legacy in their own unique ways. His mother, Shirley (Jones) Ruhge, continues to cherish the memory of her son, supported by his beloved grandchildren, Ava Beats and Ace Beats, who brought him immense joy. Richard also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends who will remember him fondly. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs Lenny and Squirt, who will miss him very much.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, William "Bill" Ruhge, and his sister, Rhonda Ruhge. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Richard Lee Ruhge will be remembered not only for his contributions to horse racing but also for his vibrant spirit and the lasting impact he made in the lives of those around him. His absence will be profoundly felt, yet his legacy will endure through the hearts of his family and friends.
