Celebrating a life well lived
Verna Marie Maupin Brown, age 98 of Skiatook, OK went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2025. She was born March 12, 1927, to Orville Edward and Pearl Ruth (Younggren) Rich on the Family Farm 8 miles west of Hugoton, Kansas. She survived the Dust Bowl days of the 30's and the Great Depression.
Verna graduated from Hugoton High School in May 1945. She then went to work for Bob May Chevrolet, keeping their books for 5 years. There she was trained and learned the General Motors Accounting System. November 9, 1947, Verna and Douglas Maupin were married in Clayton, NM. To this union, their 3 children were born. In 1953 they moved to Midland, TX with their three small children to make their home. Verna was the homemaker, seamstress, active in the PTA, cub scout leader, girl scout leader. She was Doug's partner in his 35-year career with Northern Natural Gas, moving from Midland in 1967 to Seminole, TX, to Guymon, OK in 1969, and to Spearman, TX where she worked for Spearman Cable TV for 12 years keeping books. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Hansford Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and Gladiator Flower Club. Doug preceded her in death in October 1987.
In 1992 Verna and Dude Brown were married and resided in Spearman, TX until his death in 2000. In 2006 Verna move to Skiatook, OK to be closer to her family. She joined the First United Methodist Church shortly after being in Skiatook. In 2022 she joined the First Baptist Church in Skiatook.
She is survived by:
Children-Son, Rodney Maupin & wife Chris of Owasso, daughter Patti McKinney & husband Mark of Skiatook, and daughter Jeannie Ballou of Inianola, IA; 4-Grandchildren Shawna Thill & husband Howard of Bartlesville, Erick Maupin of Owasso, Colby Ballou of Broken Arrow, and Keli Davis & husband Joshua of Mustang, OK; 11Great grandchildren -Katelyn, Olivia & husband Caleb, Chase, Ericka & Matt, Taylor, Kash, Colton, Lainee, Tanessa, Landen and Logan; 3 step daughters and 1 step son.

Both Husbands, Parents, 3 sisters, Darlene Clinesmith, Ferne Traver, Doris Mantyke and 1 brother Claude Rich, Granddaughter Kelly Celeste, Special Cousin David Younggren.
