Janette Emile (Murrie) Kellogg

Janette Emile Kellogg joined her husband and loved ones in heaven on April 22, 2023.

Janette was born February 5th, 1939 to Olen Speed and Audrey Gertrude (Phillips) Murrie, the second of four children. She grew up in Oklahoma along with her brothers, J.A. and Ernest Lee, and sister, Hope Elizabeth living in Avant for most of her childhood with short periods spent in Seminole, Beaver and Walters, Oklahoma as her father followed his work in the oil fields. They settled in Avant around 1950 where she attended Avant School, graduating in 1956.

Janette married Bobby J Kellogg on August 5th of 1957. Bob’s service in the Air Force moved them to Del Rio, Texas in 1958 where they lived until 1965 when they moved to Muskogee and then back to Avant in 1966. Other than helping at the store owned by her mother’s family when needed, Janette chose not to take an outside job until her children were grown. She began work at the Post Office in Avant in 1983 where she worked as a clerk. She also took a position in the Sperry Post Office and retired as a postmaster in 2003.

Bob and Janette raised their family with a great respect for God and faithfully attended church missing only a few services over the years. Janette was known for her ability to cook and was at home in the church kitchen for all dinners and celebrations. If there was a meal to prepare, the ladies in the church all knew to see Janette about what they needed to bring and when they were to be there.

Janette was preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 64 years in 2021. Her mother went to heaven in 1955 and her father joined her in 1966. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Hope Magnus, in 2016 and her brother, J.A. Murrie, in 2021. She is survived by her son, Richard and wife Jean of Newcastle, and three daughters - Angela Hensley and husband James of Claremore, Brenda Hicks of Avant, and Mindy Jo Englett and husband, John, of Avant. Also surviving Janette is her brother, Ernie Murrie and wife Linda of Dickinson, Texas and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Murrie of Avant. She is also survived by four granddaughters and four grandsons as well as twelve great-grandchildren and one new great-great grandson.
