Jerry Byron Joplin

 A tougher 80-year-old cowboy, but gentle man who would help any soul, all while smiling and outworking his 20-year old hands, you won’t find.

 Born on the family farm on the banks of Delaware River near Bromide, Ok, Jerry attended all 12 years of school there, where he was not only a good student but also loved playing basketball, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Bromide Baptist church and was baptized after a special church camp experience at Falls Creek during his early teen years.

 Growing up on the farm, he performed the typical jobs of farm life, learned some fundamental cowboy skills. and also the joys of riding and roping. The summer after graduation, he worked on a ranch near Pawhuska where his sister Ophelia lived. He enrolled in Murray State College in Tishomingo that fall, but by the end of the first semester he begged his mother to sign, (he was still only 17) allowing him to join the Marine Corps. Jerry received an honorable discharge after 7 years of service.

 A good son to his parents, making sure his Mother was cared for after his Dad passed away, he sent money every month to supplement her income. A helpful mentor to brothers Joe and Glen who worked with him in construction to learn the trade, and to nephews John and Aaron along with countless young men, teaching them a strong work ethic while they earned money for college.

 He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Joplin: children daughter Mandie Joplin of Torrance, CA, bonus-son Burl Forbes, Jr. of Collinsville, and bonus-daughter Sherrie Redding of Skiatook; grandchildren Crystal, Savannah, Kody, Lauren, and Nicholas; and 10 great-grandchildren. Jerry was one of ten children born to Delbert & Ada Joplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Perrin and three brothers, John Joplin, Glen Joplin, and Jack Joplin.

He is survived by his sisters Ophelia Conway of Moore, OK, Ellen Marcy of Durant, OK; Nell Booker of Norfolk, VA and Dixie Cooper of Davis, OK. Also survived by brother Joe Joplin of Gardener, KS. Many nieces and nephews from his nine siblings were proud to call him Uncle Jerry. Countless young people have been impacted by his giving spirit and will cherish memories of his seemingly endless pocket full of coins and an ornery grin that would light up a room.
