John Ray Phillips, age 82, of Skiatook went to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:47 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma with his children by his side.
John was born November 29, 1941, in Skiatook, Oklahoma to Homer Everett and Ivy Dell (Schuler) Phillips. John grew up and received his education in Skiatook where he graduated in 1959. On February 15, 1961 John married Betty Jean Salkil. John was employed in a Grocery Store where he was the Produce Manager for Humpty Dumpty. John had also worked in the oilfields where he was a roughneck. Then John owned and operated Universal Towers and Maintenance where he replaced towers and lights. John later opened the Poppy Shack where he made Poppy's BBQ Sauce. John loved piddling and tinkering around. He loved his grandkids, and horses he was a problem solver, he loved hunting and fishing, making Jewelry, cutting wood. John and his family helped clear out the land when Skiatook Lake was being built. John was also known to fight chickens and he loved his dog that was laying beside him when he passed away. John was of the Pentecostal Faith.

John was preceded in death by his parents; Homer and Ivy Phillips, brothers; Floyd Phillips, Tom Phillips and Homer Phillips and by one child.

John is survived by his children; Angela (Phillips) Capehart and husband; Phil, Deborah (Phillips) Allen and husband Gary  and John Ray Phillips II and wife Carrie Jo, brother; Thurman Phillips and wife Vicki, sisters; Betty Jo Cryder, Iva Jean Holcomb and Wilma Brown, grandchildren; Stephanie James, Lucas Harris, Ashley Mathis, Kyle Allen, Cody Allen, Colten Allen, Morgan Phillips, Quinn Phillips, Erin Burwell, Kelsey Phillips, Gabby Beaman, Josie Williamson and Brendan Williamson, John is also survived by his eleven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family of John Ray Phillips entrusted his care and services to the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.
