Naomi (Martin) McClure

Funeral services for Naomi McClure will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 4, 2020 at The Osage Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

Naomi McClure, age 99, of Skiatook passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 in Owasso, Oklahoma.

Naomi was born August 6, 1921 in Delaware, Oklahoma to George and Maude (Buffington) Martin. Her family moved to Barnsdall, Oklahoma and she attended high school where she met her future husband Clifford McClure. They were married July 18, 1939.In 1939 they moved to Los Angeles California. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1941.

Her husband worked in the oil fields in the area until entering the army during World War II in 1942. He served in the European Theater for three years.

Naomi also had three brothers that served in the European Theater. Two of her brothers were wounded in action. The three years her husband was gone to war Naomi and a lady friend took a sheet metal course at Spartan Aircraft in Tulsa and went to work for Spartan Aircraft and Douglas Aircraft as “Rosie The Riveter”. They worked on B-26 planes. Naomi worked at this job until her husband came home in 1945.

When her husband came home from war in 1945 they moved to Wichita, Kansas where her husband worked for Bareco Oil Refinery for seven years and Naomi worked for Boeing Aircraft. Then her husbands job took them to Elk City, Oklahoma working for Shell Oil Company. In Elk City they started raising thoroughbred race horses. In Elk City Naomi worked as a Dental Assistant and taught children’s Sunday school.

From Elk City they moved to Houma, Louisiana with Shell Oil Company for 15 years. Here they continued with the thoroughbred race horse business. In Houma they did a lot of good fishing, living just 30 miles from the Gulf.

In 1977 Naomi’s husband retired from Shell Oil Company after 25 years of service. They moved back to Skiatook to help take care of their parents. They enjoyed 20 years of retirement together. Her husband Clifford passed away January 22, 1998.

Naomi has been a member of The Women’s W.S.C.S. of the church since 1939. Also she was a lifetime member of Eastern Star #473, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary #3077, American Legion Unit #0131, Chums of Methodist Church, and Methodist Sunday School Class.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband Clifford McClure on January 22, 1998, they were married 59 ½ years, her parents George and Maude (Buffington) Martin, four brothers Walter, Everett, Floyd, and George Martin, three sisters Faye Berry, Florence Bradley, and Gertrude Parks.

Naomi is survived by lots of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
