Obituary

Colleene Carpenter, 83, of Skiatook passed from this life on June 12, 2020.

Colleene was born on September 27th, 1936 in Pryor, OK. Colleene grew up and received her education at Pryor. She married Jimmy Carpenter on February 7, 1953. As young newlyweds, they lived at an army base in "Fort Hood" Texas before making Skiatook their permanent home. Together, they owned several businesses including Tastee Freez, Skiatook Car Wash, and Sun Spa Tanning Salon. They were also investors at First National Bank of Skiatook. Colleene and her husband Jimmy worked tirelessly when they were young and were fortunate to retire at a young age giving them time to enjoy traveling with friends and spending time with family. Colleene remained active in the community as a member of ESA. During retirement, Colleene focused on the things she loved most: caring for her family, cooking, and reading. Most people who are fortunate enough to have known her describe her as funny, dramatic, loving, charming, and bold. There are not enough words to describe her lively soul. Colleene was beautiful in every way and had a caring heart. She was a devoted wife, beloved mother, and a whimsical grandmother known as Nana.

Preceded in death by mom Jo Deskin and husband Jack, dad Johnny Bates and wife Pat, brother Jimmy Bates, grandson Jamin Johnson.

Colleene is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jimmy Carpenter; daughter, Terri Horner; grandson Landon Johnson and wife Rachel; granddaughters Zoey Horner and Piper Long and husband David; 7 great-grandchildren; surviving brother, Don Bates and wife Almira. Surviving half siblings: Bucky and Marilyn Bates of Locust Grove, OK, Janice Bates of Pryor, OK, Judy and Jack Smith of Pryor, OK Fred and Verna Bates of Locust Grove, OK, Barbara and Stan Covey of Rose, OK, Connie and Jerry Stacy of Owasso, OK and Bryce and Pam Bates of Locust Grove, OK, as well as many loving relatives and friends.
